Wes Anderson’s Fantastic Mr. Fox is a perfect example of what an animated movie should be: fun for all movie audiences and short enough to get the moviewatcher’s entire attention. This film is said to be second to Up in terms of 2009 animated movies, and I have to agree wholeheartedly. It is one and half hours of great fun.
Fantastic Mr Fox is Anderson’s(The Royal Tennenbaums) first animated outing. It is the screen adaption of the beloved Ronald Dahl children’s book which is a story about Mr. Fox (George Clooney) trying to save his kidnapped nephew from the hands of disgruntled farmers.
Everything about this film is dare I say, fantastic. The soundtrack is upbeat and melodious giving the environment a child-like feeling. Additionally, the voice acting by Meryl Streep and George Clooney bring these fictional characters to life with their occasional witty remarks. The movie never ceizes to be fun and ends on a high note, which makes the overall film a grand experience.
Although the animation may seem to be offbeat and unlike anything in this modern day, Fantastic Mr. Fox succeeds in being an appealing movie for all. It’s overall an entertaining joy ride and is a shining light in this era of excessive animated films. Wes Anderson brings his talent to a new genre, and succeeds with flying CGI colors. Grade: B+
